Hey folks. I apologize for not having this up for the midnight update. I was under the impression Matt planned on posting something due to how Clickthulu doesn't like when I post things out of order. Meanwhile, he was under the impression I would be making the announcement. Oops. But, here we are now and if everything works, you'll know what's going on. It's not bad, I promise. In fact, a chunk of it is pretty exciting.
First the sad bit... A Year and a Day is going on a hiatus until July 2nd. But, not completely. The Patreon and Supporters Area will both resume updates January 17th. The Code Name: Hunter comic will continue its repost run during the break.
Why? Well, there's a couple of reasons.
Firstly, if you follow my Twitter and Patreon feeds, you'll know that I've been having a lot of trouble with Kelpie the Computer since early fall. This has set production of Issue 3 back by a couple of months. While Kelpie seems to be running okay at the moment, there's always the chance she may go down again, leading to even more delays. Due to the nerve damage in my drawing arm, the whole comic process is now digital. This means no computer, no comics. I've been researching what I'd like to eventually replace Kelpie with and have begun setting aside money. Still, it will be a while yet before I can move forward on that plan.
Secondly, we're heading into that time of year when the nerve damage flares up more often. Something about the cold weather and dampness of the mid to late winter months really aggravates things which, slows my working speed down.
The third reason is an exciting one... I'll soon be starting a new job! I've been accepted for a part-time position at our local library! I'm so excited! I've been missing librarianship for a while now and was looking for something that would allow me to use my MLS skills, as well as get me out of the house. While working from home is wonderful, it can leave you feeling a little lonely. The job will allow me time to draw, but I expect there will be a few hiccups until the schedules are all settled. This change will also help me pay off my student loans quicker as well as more easily save up for Kelpie's replacement. All of this leads to a more happy Darc!
So, what's going to happen in the meantime?
As I said, the Patreon and Supporters Area will resume updates January 17th. If you're interested in joining up you can follow the links provided. If now's not a good time, no worries. I make a number of public posts available on my Patreon, including general announcements and finished art. You can follow along here.
If you'd like to know when we return, you can join our mailing list. This list is also for my monthly Mid-Pin Draw, where I chose a person at random and draw a 5x7 digital image for them. Which means you can keep up with what's happening and possibly win a bit of free art!
Matt and I will be revamping the site over the next few weeks to spruce things up a bit.
I'm also looking into what I'll need to get back into streaming. Hopefully that can start up again here in a few weeks.
I know a hiatus isn't fun. Still, it's the best thing considering all that's been happening, and will be happening, lately. I appreciate you sticking with me during this break. Thank you!
