This issue is extra special because it's a Sponsored Issue! Thank you!

Hey, if she won't leave there's nothing for it but to settle in and listen to what the letter says. Sleep is for the weak, after all.

How could anyone go back to sleep when a letter arrives from a different world altogether?

B-but read a letter from another realm without tea? That's just uncivilized.

It is so awesome to see Morraine in her early years. Royalty, even future Royalty would never find themselves in servants quarters. This is what makes Morraine so special. I could see her doing it present age too.

Mori enjoys taking propriety and booting it out the window. Something that really upsets Mori's mother - we'll meet her in the next issue.

Oh, also the formality, or lack thereof. Her calling Allen by his first name. :) :)

Just thought of another, no one really commented on Allen thinking Morraine was Emily!!! What was he dreaming? Does Emily reciprocate in the end?

He was dreaming / waking, and given how the first page of this issue shows his introspection over 'pleasant dreams that he must not act upon', he is well aware of this. -heh- As is Morraine now! I can easily imagine her matchmaking the pair, especially as the years go by and the morality of the situation becomes more acceptable to society. (1948 vs 2000) As for Robert Allen, calling someone by family name is much more common in the UK at the time; Morraine is still very informal with him, but I think he would be shocked if she called him Robert!

Emily is interested but, if I remember right, marrying someone in the same household was frowned upon by many employers. Something about the fear it could cause a conflict of loyalties - spouse vs. employer. It's been over a year since I read most of the research material for AYAD, so my memory may be off. I'll have to go back and reread some sources before we delve deeper into Allen and Emily's relationship in the comic.

In the US Military, family names are all you have. In fact, only your closest friends would even know your first name. The fact that your family name is stenciled or embroidered on your chest likely has a lot to do with this.

Random art compliment: I just noticed Allen's shadow on the wall behind him, complete with ear and the stray lock of hair. Very nice touch!

Thanks! I realized that I forgot to put the shadow on the wall back on page three. I had to go and add those in quick.

Wonderful storytelling. Love the color tones to set a warm and personal mood, and the expressions. As Petrov noted, even the hair adds to a personal hair-down moment. Well done!

Thank you! It's been an interesting challenge, this lighting. Though I'm looking forward to some outdoor scenes coming up. A chance to draw trees and nature again. :D
